Cleft Lip and Palate

Cleft lip and palate (CLAP) is one the most common congenital deformity of face. The incidence is estimated to be between one in 700 to one in 1000 births . In its complete manifestation it affects the lip ,nose, bones of upper jaw, gums ,the roof of oral cavity ( hard palate) and at the back of hard palate it can involve the soft tissue which hangs in the throat in a u shaped structure ( soft palate and uvula). Cleft lip and palate (CLAP) is also associated with significant dental anomalies. These patients do not only look deformed but also have difficulty in taking feeds and speaking normally. They are also likely candidates for chest and ear infections. Fortunately all patients do not present with the complete anomaly and most will present only with the lip or palate deformity. This site is an effort to help families affected by CLAP by providing them with all the essential information and offer complete treatment involving various specialities under one roof. This programme is managed with active support of Smile Train, largest cleft charity working in India.

Concepts of management may vary from place to place; the information provided in this site is based on the present concept and practises at our clinic.
